WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE A CAKE SMASH SESSION?
At least 4 weeks before your child's 1st or 2nd birthday. This gives us time to discuss theme/colors for your child's session.
HOW LONG WILL THE SESSION LAST? Your photo session will last approximately 1 hour.
WHERE WILL MY SESSION TAKE PLACE? Cake smash sessions will take place in our studio.
DO YOU PROVIDE THE CAKE?
No, you can make your own or find a reputable baker.
WHAT KIND OF CAKE SHOULD I GET? Cakes should be 6-8″, vanilla because chocolate looks like dirt or poop, no red velvet, red all over the little one's face isn't great for a photo. Have fluffy icing for easy smashing, not fondant. Icing colors should be white or pastels as bright/dark colors tend to stain. You can make your own or find a reputable baker.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR?
Anything you would like! Maybe something to match the theme or colors of your session? For girls- tutu's with a onesie or rompers look really cute. For boys- solid t's and jeans or button down with a tie and jeans look great. You can add in hats or necklaces as well. We do like for you to bring a few outfit options you would like pictured. We will capture little one in their pre-cake outfit, we suggest something fun or something formal. Then we will have little one change into their cake smash outfit!
DO YOU PROVIDE ALL THE PROPS?
We only provide a backdrop and some flag banners to match your color theme. You are more than welcome to bring any props you'd like! Just let us know ahead of time so we can plan the artistic shoot.
MAY I INCORPORATE SPECIAL PROPS (FAV BLANKETS, TOYS, MEANINGFUL ITEMS)?
Yes please! This will make your session unique to you and your family.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE SESSION? Extra props received before session day: Since we received the extra props from you before hand, we will have the cake smash set ready the night before =] Once you arrive we will tweak the cake smash set to your liking. When finalized we will take a picture of the set without baby. Next we will add baby in with their pre-cake outfit. Then we will have you change little one into their cake smash outfit, capture some photos and lastly we will add in the cake!
Extra props received on session day: When you arrive, we will ask for the extra props and work on the cake smash set. This will take about 15-30 minutes. Once the set is finalized we will take a picture of the set without baby. Next we will add baby in with their pre-cake outfit. Then we will have you change little one into their cake smash outfit, capture some photos and lastly we will add in the cake!
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO MY CAKE SMASH SESSION?
You will need to bring the cake, wipes for cleaning little one, and snacks such as puffs and water for your child.

Snacks (think cheerios, or puffs) in case they don’t like the cake. We sometimes have to hide them the cake to make it look like your little one is actually eating the cake. Ssshhh.. If you don't tell, we won’t :)
DO YOU INCLUDE PARENT OR SIBLINGS IN SHOTS?
At this time, cake smash sessions only focuses on the baby. Parents and siblings are not included.
WHAT IF MY CHILD DOESN'T EAT THE CAKE?
This does happen. Some children love the cake smash and dig right in. Others are hesitant. We recommend making a cupcake or small cake and introducing the cake smash idea before (a few days/weeks before) our session date. This way, your child will be familiar with the process and will know that they can smash the cake. Also, bring or have on hand puffs or cheerios so we can stuff them into the cake. Your child will want to grab them out of the cake and eat it.
WILL I (MOM OR DAD) GET MESSY?
You definitely will! You will have to show your child that he/she can eat the cake so you might have to take a bite yourself. Yum! Also, your child may stand up and walk or crawl around, so you will have to keep putting your child back into the designated space. You will get frosting on your clothes so don't wear anything you do not want to get ruined.
CAN I INVITE MY FAMILY MEMBERS TO THE SESSION?
We like to keep the maximum family members at this session to two adults. Too many people trying to get your child to smile or talking will distract your child.
HOW WILL WE CLEAN UP?
No worries we will do the cleaning! We recommend changing your child right at the cake smash site. Have wipes and a change of clothes ready to to go.
